Imo State Flags Off 2024 Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Week

On Friday, June 28th, 2024, Imo State officially flagged off the 2024 Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Week (MNCHW) at the Imo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency-ISPHCDA in Owerri. This one-week intensive program, established by the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Health and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, aims to deliver a comprehensive package of high-impact health services to mothers and children across the country.

Represented by the Commissioner, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hon. Nkechinyere Ugwu UNJP, I commended the noble initiative. Held twice a year, the MNCHW program seeks to reduce the alarmingly high maternal and child mortality rates in Nigeria, particularly in Imo State.

This week-long event provides a valuable opportunity for pregnant women, women of reproductive age, and children to visit health centers and access crucial services. It also challenges health workers to ensure every mother and child in Imo State, especially those in rural communities, receives these essential high-impact interventions.

Special thanks to my husband, His Excellency Sen. Hope Uzodimma, the Executive Secretary of ISPHCDA, the Imo State Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, Vitamin Angels, MRITE, Caritas Nigeria, and Corona Management System. Your tireless efforts in Imo State significantly amplify the impact of health programs implemented by the Ministry of Health.

Chief Barr. (Mrs.) Chioma Uzodimma.
First Lady of Imo State, Founder of GoodHope Flourish Foundation, and Secretary of Renewed Hope Initiative
