Flag-off Ceremony of the Hepatitis C Elimination and Hepatitis B Control Program

On Thursday, May 23rd, 2024, we made a significant stride in combating viral hepatitis in Imo State with the launch of the Hepatitis C Elimination and Hepatitis B Control Program at the Imo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency-ISPHCDA in Owerri. This launch underscores our commitment to enhancing the health and well-being of Imo citizens.

We are thrilled to embark on this journey together and confident that our collective efforts will reduce the burden of viral hepatitis in Imo State. We envision a future where Imo State thrives, free from the fear of these preventable and treatable diseases.

Hepatitis B and C pose serious health challenges to our communities, often leading to liver cirrhosis, liver cancer, and even death if left untreated. However, with effective treatments and screening tests now available, we have the tools to prevent and cure these diseases. Today marks our first step in this vital endeavour.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Imo State Government GoodHope Flourish Foundation, Imo State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Sepat Pharmaceuticals, Pharco Pharmaceuticals, and Fidelity Bank Plc for their invaluable contributions and partnerships in this essential health initiative.

Special thanks to those who ensured the success of the flag-off ceremony, including my dear husband, Governor Hope Uzodimma who was represented by the Deputy Governor, HE Chinyere Ekomaru PhD; the Imo State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Prosper-Ohayagha Success KSC; the Honourable Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hon. Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu; the Executive Secretary of the Imo State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Rev. Sis. Dr. Maria-Joannes Uzoma; the Director General of the GoodHope Flourish Foundation, Hon. Humphrey Ikeaka; traditional rulers; and other distinguished personalities.
