Government Of Imo State Determined To End Trafficking In Persons As Naptip Busts Network, Rescues Six Children
A joint investigation between the National Agency for The Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and troops from the 34 Artillery Brigade Obinze, Imo State has rescued six children from a trafficking network that specialized in the abduction and selling of children of Imo State Origin to an Auxiliary Nurse based in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State identified as Mrs. Favour Amaegbulam.
The victims (six children and one pregnant girl) were rescued from Child Traffickers at Eziachi, in Orlu Local Government, Imo State with principal Suspect, Joy Duru.
The rescued children were handed over to the Imo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Vulnerable Groups over the weekend by Imo Commander of NAPTIP, Mr. Ernest Ogbu.
As a result, Lady Ugwu assured them that the Ministry would oversee their welfare until the matter is resolved.
Trafficking in persons is a serious crime in Imo State, and fortunately, this has been brought to my attention and we will ensure that those responsible face the consequences.
