Imo State Orientation Agency holds a one-day seminar in commemoration of this year’s International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

The Department of Psychology, Imo State University (IMSU) in collaboration with the Imo State Orientation Agency, held a one-day seminar on June 26, 2023, at the IMSU Auditorium, in commemoration of this year’s International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The Director of Women Affairs at the Ministry of Women Affairs and Vulnerable Groups, Dr. Blessing Azubuike, who represented me, emphasized the need of raising awareness about the consequences of drug abuse and Illicit trafficking.
Drug abuse and illicit trafficking are not isolated problems; they are interconnected and perpetuate a vicious cycle of harm that has cast a dark shadow over countless lives, tearing apart families, shattering dreams, and robbing communities of their potential.
Awareness is the cornerstone of change, and it empowers us to make informed decisions and take decisive action. However, awareness alone is not enough, it must be transformed into action that disrupts the supply chain of drugs, supports those affected by addiction, and prevents future generations from falling into the same trap.
I extend my gratitude to the Head, Department of Psychology, Imo State University, Dr. Ngozi Sydney Agbor for the invitation and hospitality my team received. I also extend appreciation to the Director General of Imo State Orientation Agency, Dr. Ethelbert Okere, Assistant Commander (Narcotics) – Mrs. Nwoko Margaret Uchenna represented by Mr. Uche Samson, the Imo State Commissioner for Health – Hon. Dr. Prosper Ohaghaya, Imo State Commissioner of Police represented by ACP David Ogenyi, among other notable dignitaries for their contribution towards the event.
I remain optimistic that together we can pave the way for a brighter, healthier future while ensuring that no individual falls victim to the clutches of addiction and no community suffers from the devastating effects of drugs.
