International Youth Day, 2022!
Today, I wish to join the promising and spirited youths of Imo State in commemorating this year’s International Youth Day.
I would also like to join the United Nations in highlighting one of the most prevailing problems that young people deal with, which is ageism; age-based discriminatory behaviour based on an individual’s age.
Due to this issue, several qualified young people have been passed over for responsibilities or remunerations. Its effect on people restricts them from realizing their full potential and making significant contributions in their communities.
The theme for the 2022 International Youth Day is “Intergenerational Solidarity: Creating A World For All Ages.” According to Agenda 2030 of the United Nations (UN), fostering intergenerational solidarity is vital in ensuring this obstacle is identified and swiftly addressed in a way that promotes effective collaboration; generations learn from each other.
This day is therefore a reminder that we are competent, smart and motivated. We can do positive things and influence major changes in the world irrespective of how young we are.
