The Imo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Vulnerable Groups has been consistent with its message of aiding victims of child abuse, domestic, sexual or physical violence. It is therefore, important that when such violent acts occur to or around us, we do not hesitate to reach out.
Thankfully, that was the case for 14-year-old Miss Marvellous Uchechi Ezike, a native of Orodo, Mbaitoli, Imo State, who did not hesitate to reach out to the group this morning about being physically abused by her 38-year-old guardian, Mrs. Constance Onuoha, a native of Aboh Mbaise LGA, Imo State.
In reviewing Marvellous’ case, we can best describe what she experienced as man’s inhumanity to man. From child abuse to child labour, it was shocking to confirm from neighbours the various reports shared by the victim. The recent incident led to her requiring hand surgery after she was flogged with a cable wire. Her mother was immediately contacted and her guardian was tucked away in a police cell.
Marvellous underwent traumatizing circumstances, and she is currently receiving all the medical care and rehabilitation she needs at a hospital. We will continue to monitor her, cover her medical bills and ensure justice takes its full course for her.
