The Office of the Wife of The Imo State Governor visit rape victim at the Imo State Specialist Hospital, Umuguma
My office has and will continue to take decisive measures to ensure that those who commit abhorrent and heinous acts, which deeply violate a person’s autonomy, dignity, and fundamental human rights, are not allowed to evade justice and are made to face the full weight of the law.
I was saddened to hear the news of the teenager who was raped by four men, namely; Amarachi Nwodo 39, David Ajuka 22, Chima Uwandu 43, and Osinachi Okoro 22, at World Bank, Amaraku in Isiala Mbano LGA of Imo State.
In my absence, the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Vulnerable Groups, Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu, visited the victim at the Imo State Specialist Hospital Umuguma, to personally assess her well-being, provide support for her medical expenses, and ensure that she had filed an official report. I am glad to hear the victim is receiving proper medical care and that the perpetrators have been remanded to jail.
It is commendable to recognize the efforts of Journalist Chidiebube Okeoma, who played a crucial role in advocating for the rescue of the minor. I also extend my gratitude to the Director of Child Services MWAVG, Mr. Benjamin Amaefula, and Mr. Okeoma for their efforts in assisting this case.
There will be no impunity for those who engage in such reprehensible behaviour, and Imo State Government will work tirelessly to protect and support the victims of these crimes while holding perpetrators accountable for their actions, ensuring justice is swift and severe.
Chief Barr. (Mrs.) Chioma Uzodimma.
