On October 5, 2023, I extended my heartfelt appreciation to the Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) Limited for their remarkable Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) initiative that was recently unveiled at the open field of St. Paul Primary School in Irete.
The WASH project, situated in Umunjo village, Irete, within the Owerri West Local Government Area, stands as a testament to NBC’s commitment to community welfare and includes a state-of-the-art 10-room toilet facility, borehole, overhead tank, water taps, biodigester, and modern sanitary amenities.
The Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Vulnerable Groups, Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu, who represented me expressed my profound satisfaction with this commendable undertaking. I implored NBC to diligently preserve and protect this invaluable facility against any form of vandalism and also consider replicating such initiatives across other Local Government Areas in Imo State.
In an earlier address, Mr. Collins Dike, the Plant Manager of NBC, highlighted the company’s ongoing commitment to spearheading Sustainable Development Projects (SDG-6) as a means of giving back to the community as it is Nigeria’s biggest development challenge.
This momentous occasion also witnessed the presence of Imo State Government functionaries, including Hon. Nobel Atulegwu, Commissioner for Lands, Engr. Emeka Ugoanyanwu, MD of Imo State Water Sewage, Hon. (Mrs.) Maria Mbakwe, Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Engagement, HRH Sir. Dr. Eze Ethelberth Ekwelibe, Hon. Victor Osigwe, SOLAD of the LGA, and other esteemed stakeholders from the community.
