In Nigeria, the fight against human trafficking has been a collective effort, with various agencies and organizations working tirelessly to protect and support victims.
I recognize the invaluable role of law enforcement agencies, such as the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Women at Risk International Foundation (WARIF) and Project Alert on Violence Against Women among other organizations who have tirelessly dedicated themselves to identifying and apprehending traffickers, disrupting trafficking networks, and ensuring justice is served to the perpetrators.
Today we observe the 2023 World Day Against Trafficking in Person with the theme, “Reach Every Victim of Trafficking, Leave No One Behind”. This commemoration serves as a powerful reminder for agencies, organizations, and individuals to renew their commitment to stand united against human trafficking and work towards a future where every victim finds solace and no one is left behind.
Through collaboration or partnerships with international agencies, we can continue to facilitate capacity building, knowledge sharing, and resource mobilization to extend a helping hand to victims, provides safe havens, counselling, vocational training, and legal support that rebuilds shattered lives and restores hope.
