WORLD DIABETES DAY, 2021
Every year on the 14th of November, the International Diabetes Foundation and the World Health Organization raises awareness of the increasing number of new and dying diabetic patients across the world by commemorating World Diabetes Day. This rise in the number of patients is largely influenced by a lack of physical activity and an increase in obesity in the general population.
This year, we observe the campaign with the theme “Access to Diabetes Care” to encourage individuals living with diabetes to maintain a healthy lifestyle and seek proper diabetes treatment within their primary healthcare system. Poorly managed blood sugar levels and unchecked weight gain can cause serious health complications.
Therefore, it is always advisable for everyone to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle while still going for regular check-ups, as it goes a long way in curbing most of these ailments. Fortunately, diabetes can be managed with medication and proper screening when it is detected early.
