World Hepatitis Day, 2021

Today is World Hepatitis Day (WHD) 2021! #WHD is recognized every year on July 28th and the idea behind this day is to bring the world together for it to take time to reflect on how we are meeting the challenges we face today against viral hepatitis; which causes severe liver disease and hepatocellular cancer.

This year’s theme “Hepatitis Can’t Wait” aims to help educate us on the major strains of hepatitis; A, B, C, D, and E. Together, these strains cause 1.1 million deaths and 3.1 million new infections each year. Hepatitis is a deadly and infectious disease. Health personnel and leaders must act urgently to end hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030.

Through promoting this message and raising awareness of knowing your status, our communities can be made aware of the chronic disease, how to handle it, the prevention methods, treatments and help in eradicating it.
