World Population Day 2021
A World Population Day was declared by the United Nations Development Programme as an event on July 11, 1989 to commemorate when we surpassed the five billion mark in the human population.
The purpose of this declaration was to bring issues such as family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health, and human rights to our attention. Each year, on World Population Day, leaders, policymakers, activists and other institutions from across the world work to help make reproductive health and rights a reality for everyone.
World Population Day 2021 is themed “Rights and Choices are the Answer: Whether baby boom or bust, the solution to shifting fertility rates lies in prioritising all people’s reproductive health and rights.” This year’s observance is intended to shed light on the impact of the pandemic on fertility and family planning services which were one the most extensively disrupted health services globally.
We will continue to raise awareness about these issues and develop ways to ensure that people have access to effective, acceptable, and confidential solutions in due time.
