16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence

In a powerful demonstration against gender-based violence during this #16DaysofActivismAgainstGenderBasedViolencemy office in collaboration with the Ministry of WAVG organized an End-to-Gender-based Violence Campaign that united Imo women from diverse backgrounds for a solidarity march in the city of Owerri.

They were led by my representative, the Honourable Commissioner for WAVG, Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu on November 28, 2023, who pinnacled the march at the Imo State House of Assembly and presented our demands. Expressing concern over the plight of women in society, they commended the House for passing the VAPP Bill and urged further action, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to raise awareness about the dangers of such violence.

Amid echoes of support from various organizations, including NAPTIP and FIDA, the Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, represented by Hon. Henry Agbasonu, acknowledged the impactful activism led by my office. He pledged to continue moving motions to enforce laws protecting women and children, acknowledging the achievements already made in this regard.

As the women concluded their march at the Ministry of WAVG in Owerri, the Special Adviser on Special Duties at the Office of the Wife of the Governor, Mr. Humphrey Ikeaka, expressed our gratitude for the resilience shown by the participants.

I commend the women for their commitment in turning out during the solidarity March against Gender-based violence
